Wilson won the 2008 Olympic Trials triple jump in emphatic fashion with his winning leap of 17.43m/57-2.25 on his final attempt, which is a new University of Oregon, Hayward Field record. Another highlight of Wilson’s 2008 season occurred on May 17 when he set a new long jump personal record of 8.11m/26-7.25. In 2007, Wilson recorded national championships in the triple jump at both the AT&T USA Indoor and Outdoor meets, including a personal-best TJ indoors of 17.28m/56-8.5. He also placed in the long jump at both meets, finishing third indoors and sixth outdoors with a personal-best (8.11m/26-7.25). In 2007, Wilson posted the three best marks in the triple jump by an American that year, and his #4 world ranking at the end of the 2007 campaign is the highest of his career. In focusing almost entirely on the triple jump in 2006, Wilson earned his first top ten world ranking from Track & Field News (#9), and posted a new personal best for the first time since 2003. Wilson also set a new long jump personal best in 2006, with a leap of 8.04m/26-4.5. Along with Walter Davis, Wilson is one of the finest combination long and triple jumpers to come along in many years. Wilson in 2005 finished third in the triple jump at the NCAA and USA Outdoor Championships, and placed third in the long jump at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in in Sacramento. He also won the long and triple jump titles at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville. At the 2003 NCAA Indoor Championships, Wilson established an Indiana University school record with his runner-up finish in the triple jump with his effort of 16.99m/55-9. He also placed sixth in the long jump, with the third-best mark in school history of 7.88m/25-10.25. The Big Ten Indoor champion at both events, Wilson qualified for the 2003 NCAA Outdoor Championships in both, but did not make the final in either event, although he did win the Big Ten outdoor long and triple jump crowns. After winning the 2002 Big Ten triple jump title, Wilson was named the Conference’s Freshman of the Year. An Education major at IU, Wilson competed in basketball, football and track at Churchill HS in Falon, Nev.
